Compañía Hondureña de Energía Solar, SA de CV (Cohessa) was founded in 2012 and owns and operates solar power plant ‘Valle Solar’ in southern Honduras.
Cohessa will improve Honduras’ national energy production and make the country less dependent on fossil fuel imports. The extra capacity will also likely reduce the price of electricity, whereas the plant creates new jobs.
Honduras is one of the poorest countries in Central America, facing serious (energy) challenges. The energy sector of Honduras is highly dependent on imports. In addition to installing new capacity, the government aims to improve the efficiency of the sector and attract investors to help shifting the energy matrix to 70% renewables by 2022.
Through a loan, Triodos Groenfonds has co-financed the construction of Cohessa.
